Zyxel Omni 288 distinctive ring problem?

 You might want to increas the 

	 #define FAX_COMMAND_DELAY 50

 in policy.h and recompile.

I just tried this, kicked it up to 100, and it made no difference. It
hangs at the AT+FCLASS=2 command for quite some time if I look at the
log with a tail -f, so I do not know what is happening, unless I need
to increase the DO_CHAT_SEND_DELAY also. I will try that...

I tried that too: kicked it up to 100. I even did a power cycle with
the BUTTON held down to do a total hard reset on the modem. Nothing
worked.

I should mention that caller-ID also seems to not work until a call is
received on RING 4. 

I think something is badly messed up. How can I help in solving this?
Surely others are using the Omni 288 S modem besides me? I went to
distinctive ring to solve inability to know how to answer the phone,
but it did not help, and may have even made things worse.

after vgetty has had control of it:
