I can't find any evidence that "vgetty crashes" in the log file. Vgetty
behaves well, but your modem is not sending a fax -- only gibberish.

Have you tried what it told you to, set "switchbd 0" in the mgetty.config
file? If not, why not?

This function doesn't know *how* the 19200 bps came into the "switchbd"
variable, but it knows that it is *there*. So just try the other variant.

Well, in that case, it seems to be a modem problem (if switchbd is set
wrongly, it will *never* work, not "sometimes"). No way to fix *that*
except ask Mr. Sledgehammer...
