   a race condition, somehow, with competing mgetty, dial-out and probably
   call-in, don't know, it mostly happens late in the night.

Right. As you might know, I operate a private dialup
sunsite mirror. Since I announced that fact in iX 1/94,
UUCP and login traffic is considerably high :-) The
present config is, Linux pl15f, mgetty+sendfax 0.18,
Zyxel U1496E (6.00). Trying to dial in in the afternoon
from the ed office is somewhat annoying when the line
is once again busy or doesn't react :(
