Vgetty with MVM1.2 and USR33.6

Hello all,

I am using mgetty 1-1-7 with a usr 33.6 voice modem. This is a USR
vocie modem specific question. My internal modem has an output jack
and an internal speaker.

1. How can I get messages to play out of the output jack which is
connected to my speakers? When I use listen.sh, it plays through the
internal speaker just fine but since this is an internal modem, it is
difficult to hear. From a previous post I have tried the
suggestion to use vm play with -H but that does not work.

I also have a sound card but have not tried to hack the listen.sh to
use it.

2. I am trying to get MVM-1.2 to work. I have applied the patch
supplied with mvm to rsynth and adjusted my voice.conf to use
the supplied script. My say command used to output to my sound
card but now writes to a tmp file (I guess this is what the patch
did). Has anyone tried using MVM or gotten it to work?

Vgetty does it's thing but the voice_script just sits there.
According to the mvm_errorlog, the script cannot
communicate with the pvftools library. Does anyone
have any experience they can share with me.

I orginally set out to hack mvm to enable me to use
dtmf codes to bring my ppp link up and down as well
as fetch mail on demand. But it has peaked my
curiosity.

Thanks,

Dave
