dtmf.sh -- how do I get it to execute commands from tones

That's what dtmf.sh is for. If you start with that script, you can
add e.g. a new code that will not playback the messages, but instead
start the dialout to bring up the ppp link.

Have a look at doc/Readme.voice_shell and at the mvm script from Marc
Schaefer. That should show you, how to do such things.
