vgetty functions, but mgetty can't receive faxes ...

Something is *WEIRD* here.

And it gets worse...

I have heard about this from other USR Sportster users before, but do not
have the slightest idea what's going on here. Read() should never return
0, except at end-of-file, which means that any further access wouldn't
succeed either -- but it does!


So it seems to be a weird interaction between USR Sportsters and Linux
(and FreeBSD, for that matter), but I have *NO* idea how to fix it, or
even where to start debugging it.
