Gopher-MOO Question

Hello,
Can anyone please help me. I am trying to get the gopher-slate working.
Whenever I goto to any host on my generic gopher slate, it does not 
return the complete list of items, for e.g.

goto <some host) on generic slate.....returns

1. 
2.  (menu)
3.  (menu)
4.  (menu)
5.  (menu)
6.  (menu)
7.  (menu)
8........

It does not give me the name of the menu item..WHY.
