Well, as you should have seen by now, Pavel provided a bash restart script.
I hope that this solves your problems.  Let us know (or me at least, I'm
just really curious how this turns out) if every works okay.

I reallyhaven't the foggiest idea what is causing your csh to behave
like that .. I've never really heard of that problem except in NFS mounted
dirs, but what you describe wouldn't be this case.
