   Just a silly question. Is there any compelling reason for the :notify()
   verbs not to do a tostr(@args) ?
   Is it a technical, philosophical or historical reason?

When Rog originally created :notify, it was his idea that you might
want to pass additional control information to the verb with the other
arguments, and if you did tostr() you would lose that ability for
future expansion.
