out of memory crashes solved (I think!)

I have a feeling I've solved the problems I've been reporting.
My guess is that I was bumping into per-process limits that are not-so-well
advertised in OSF/1.  For a good summary of how to change them,

The default per-proc-data-size = 134217728
And we were crashing every time the memory usage went about 134 Mb.
Could that be it?
I've boosted several system limits, and crossed my fingers.
