Q: $network properties for mail ?

I started to run LambdaMOO under System V(4.0) from Sun.
When I try @request-character...,  message with password
is never sent. Compiling MOO, I defined "OUTOFBOUND NETWORK.."
I also have @set $network.active to 1, but all this doesn't
help.
What other $network properties should I set ?
What else should I do, to make mail work ?
